The GRAMMY Museum sought both assistance both in physical and digital storage for it’s one-of-kind archive. They needed safe and accessible storage for physical artifacts, like the piano Bruno Mars played at the GRAMMY awards and costumes from iconic artists.They also needed to digitize content from more than 300 live shows and interviews, stored on legacy hard drives and integrate them into a single, accessible repository. Digital files were stored on a local network that was slow and difficult to access, and there were concerns about a single point of failure. A secure backup and geographical separation of assets was required.

Iron Mountain end-to-end solution

• Provided 2 climate-controlled, private vaults totaling 1,000 cubic feet
• Digitized 700+ video tapes in various formats and 36 DigiBeta tapes 
• Migrated, restored and ingested 40 hard drives totaling 86TB, in various formats, featuring GRAMMY Award shows and specials between 1963-2019  
• Managed the initial data migration of approximately 40TB of data into Smart Vault and all subsequent, digitized footage from the digitized physical hard drives and tapes.
• Offered secure, long-term digital accessibility with geo-separation into Smart Vault, including metadata tags, time codes and AI-powered search engine capability which improves security and data integrity and eliminates single point of failure.

Iron Mountain is proud to serve as the Official Preservation Partner of the GRAMMY Museum. This collaboration secures the physical storage of hundreds of artifacts as well as ensures the Museum's digital archive of 120 terabytes of data, featuring more than 9,000 files and 1,000 artists, remains secure, dramatically improving efficiency and enabling new licensing and distribution opportunities.
