The ecommerce holiday season is upon us. Is your warehouse ready for your inventory?

All economic signs are leading to a very busy 2026 holiday season. Between consumers looking for deals, increasing gas prices, AI infiltration of data sets driving targeted advertising, and expanding omnichannel platforms, commerce and ecommerce during Q3 / Q4 is likely to be fast and furious. As retailers count on these months to achieve anywhere between 25-40% of their annual sales, being inventory-ready is going to be as important as it's ever been.
Here are some quick tips for peak (and beyond) to help ensure your products are going to be stored in the right location, with the right kind of security, and ready for deployment when consumer demand kicks in.
When you’re just getting started, using 1-2 warehouses to house your products can work for a while. But as you grow, a large, integrated warehouse network offers a lot more flexibility. Scale becomes critical as inventory expands, and having warehouses all around the country can help you more easily manage overflows while supporting the strategy of having inventory close to your customers. Sometimes you need storage for long periods of time; sometimes you need it for a few days. Agile capacity options are critical, especially when you’re growing quickly.
Standard warehouse security is table stakes and is often assumed - but comprehensive security measures taken by the warehouses you’re using becomes even more important should something go wrong. Make sure the warehouses you’re storing your products in include alarmed entry systems, 24/7 monitoring, video surveillance, advanced fire suppression features, digital firewalls, and continuity / contingency plans for issues that arise. Peak season is not the time to be taught new lessons about what happens to your products if there is a security failure.
Peak season inherently creates a very busy, super-energized warehouse environment. A flurry of activity means time is of the essence, and you’re going to want to know that there are trusted resources ready to receive, pick, pack, kit, prep, label, box and fulfill your products. Your consumers are counting on you and the delivery timelines that you give them. Established warehouses that offer a culture of collaboration and team engagement are able to keep the kind of talent you want managing your inventory. If you’re seeing a lot of turnover in your warehouse, it may be time to find a partner with greater staff consistency.
