Read the IMDC 2025 Sustainability Overview to discover how we are supporting the growing AI data center demand with 24/7 clean power and green infrastructure.

Demand for advanced data center infrastructure has never been higher. According to a recent overview by the IEA, electricity consumption from data centers is set to double by 2030, and power use from those focused on AI is poised to triple over the same period.
Iron Mountain Data Centers (IMDC) is now one of the world’s leading data center providers, building and running facilities for hyperscalers, neoclouds, service providers, governments, and enterprises. The growing scale of our operations—and our increasing presence in local communities—continues to raise the importance of our environmental, social, and governance commitments. We have developed unique and ambitious programs focused on delivering a sustainable digital future, and we’re proud to share our progress with you here.
This overview explains how we are going about this, from investing in renewables that cover 100% of our customer power to restructuring our purchasing and emissions measurement to achieve clean power from local grids every hour of every day. For three years, we have been unique among global providers in our pursuit of 24/7 clean power, but we believe that this year’s new greenhouse gas protocol, with its focus on more granular reporting, will encourage others to follow in our footsteps.
In the “Supporting the energy transition” section of this overview we set out how we are investing in practical ways for data centers to support the grid as it grows to support new demand while simultaneously transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy.
Our Sustainability Program covers our buildings as well as our energy, and since last year’s overview, we are particularly proud of the fact that over half of our facilities are now either certified or in the process of certification for the globally-respected BREEAM sustainability standard.
This overview shows that in 2025, we continued to move the needle in the right direction. We have been reporting on how we reduce our environmental impact for over a decade now, and our focus is on real-world incremental improvements and innovations that make a difference. In the “Measuring performance and reporting publicly” section, you will find the latest IMDC sustainability performance, showing that our performance on each key operational metric—Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE), and Carbon Usage Effectiveness (CUE)—continues to improve year-on-year. These are independently attested figures that can be relied on by our customers to support their own sustainability targets.
We will continue to innovate and invest in sustainability as we believe it is critical to the wellbeing of our staff, our partners, our customers, and the communities in which we operate, as well as being key to the long-term health of the planet and the success of the digital economy.
Yours sincerely,
